Frequently Asked Questions
How does AI score counting work?
Point your camera at your dominoes using the camera icon in the app. Our AI will automatically detect and count the pips in real-time as the dominoes appear in view. Make sure the dominoes are clearly visible and well-lit for best results.
What's included in the free version?
The free version includes basic score tracking for 2-4 players and limited themes. You get 3 free AI counting uses per game, and you can watch a short video to unlock 3 more whenever you need them — or upgrade to Premium for unlimited AI counting with no ads. You can play unlimited games!
What does Premium include?
Premium unlocks unlimited AI counting, ad-free experience, tournament mode, all themes and animations, game sharing, and custom scoreboard backgrounds (iOS 26+ & Android) on both platforms. On iOS you also get iCloud sync, plus widgets & Live Activity and saved Name Styles on iOS 26 or later — these are coming to Android in a future update. Live Share & Transfer hosting is Premium on both iOS 26+ and Android; joining a shared game and using the Game Timer are free for everyone on both platforms. Recurring subscriptions (Monthly, 6-Month, Annual) include a 14-day free trial. Lifetime Access requires immediate one-time payment with no trial.
Does the 14-day free trial apply to all Premium options?
No. The 14-day free trial only applies to recurring subscriptions (Monthly, 6-Month, and Annual plans). If you choose Lifetime Access, it's a one-time payment with no trial period, but you get permanent Premium access forever.
How do I add widgets to my home screen? (Premium, iOS 26+ only)
Widgets are currently available on iPhone and iPad running iOS 26 or later. Long-press on your home screen, tap the "+" button in the top left, search for "Magic Domino", and select the widget size you want. You can add widgets to your home screen or lock screen to see your live scores! Widget support for Android is planned for a future update.
What is Live Activity? (Premium, iOS 26+ only)
Live Activity displays your current game score in real-time on your lock screen and Dynamic Island. When you start a new game with Premium, your live score automatically appears! It updates as you add points during the game.
How do I add Quick Points from my Lock Screen or Dynamic Island? (Premium, iOS 26+ only)
With Premium and iOS 26+, when you have an active game, you'll see Live Activity on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. Simply tap the Quick Points button to add points without opening the app. You can also undo your last score directly from there!
How do I customize my scoreboard background? (Premium, iOS 26+ & Android)
On iPhone and iPad running iOS 26 or later, and on Android, go to Settings → Scoreboard Background → Select Photo. Choose a photo from your library, adjust the opacity and blur to your liking, and save! Your photo is stored locally on your device and never uploaded to our servers.
Why can't I see the custom background or widget features?
Both are Premium features, so first make sure you have an active Premium subscription. Beyond that:
- Custom Backgrounds are available on Android and on iPhone or iPad running iOS 26 or later. Make sure your device meets these requirements.
- Widgets & Live Activity currently require iPhone or iPad on iOS 26 or later. They are not yet available on Android and are planned for a future update.
How do I restore my Premium purchase?
Go to Settings → tap "Upgrade" → On the paywall screen, tap "Restore Purchase" at the top right. On iOS your purchase is tied to your Apple ID; on Android it's tied to your Google account. It will be restored automatically as long as you're signed in to the same account you purchased with.
Can I sync my games across devices?
On iOS, yes — with a Premium subscription, your game history syncs automatically via iCloud across all your Apple devices. Cross-device sync is not yet available on Android, but it's planned for a future update. On all platforms, your game history is always saved locally on your device.
How do I cancel my subscription?
On iOS, subscriptions are managed through Apple: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Magic Domino → Cancel Subscription. On Android, they're managed through Google Play: open Google Play → tap your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Magic Domino → Cancel.
How does Tournament Mode work?
Create a tournament with 4, 8, 16, or 32 players. The app automatically generates brackets and tracks winners through each round until a champion is crowned!
Can I share my games with friends?
Yes, in three ways. On iOS 26 or later and on Android, tap the share button on the scoreboard: Share Live opens a room so others can follow the score on their own phones as you play, Send a Copy hands a game or tournament to another device, and Enter Code lets you join a game someone else is sharing. You can also share a game result as an image at any time. It works the same on iPhone, iPad, and Android, and you can share between them.
How does Live Share work? (iOS 26+ & Android — hosting needs Premium)
Start a game, tap the share button in the header, and choose Share Live. You'll get a short code and a QR code. Hosting a session needs Premium, but the people watching don't need it at all — anyone you give the code to can enter it — or scan the QR from the Counter screen — and watch your scoreboard update in real time on their own phone. No more leaning over to see someone else's screen. Everyone can follow along whether they're sitting at the same table or somewhere else entirely.
Does Live Share need an internet connection?
Not always. If everyone is on the same Wi-Fi network, phones connect to each other directly over that network and nothing goes through the internet at all — handy at a house with patchy service. When someone is somewhere else, the game is relayed through our server so it can reach them. The first time you use Live Share on the same network, iOS asks for Local Network permission and Android asks to find nearby devices. You can decline either one and Live Share will still work through the relay.
Who can see my game when I share it live?
Only people who have your share code. Treat it like a door key — anyone holding it can watch, so give it out only to people you want following along. Viewers can see the game as it appears on your scoreboard: team names, scores, round history, and the timer if you have it on. They can watch, but they can't change anything. Ending the session closes the room and stops all sharing immediately. Since team names are whatever you type in, use nicknames if you'd rather not share real ones. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
How long does a share code last?
A live room stays open for as long as you keep the session running — close it and the code stops working. A code used to send a copy of a game is single-use: once the other device claims the game, the code is spent, and unclaimed codes expire on their own.
Why don't I see Live Share, Name Styles, or the Game Timer?
Live Share and the Game Timer are available on Android and on iPhone or iPad running iOS 26 or later. Name Styles is iOS 26+ only for now and is planned for Android in a future update. On iOS 17 or 18 the app works fully, but none of these appear.
Premium requirements differ: the Game Timer is free for everyone (and off by default — turn it on in Settings → Game Timer). Name Style presets are free; saving your own custom styles needs Premium. For Live Share, hosting a session or sending a copy needs Premium, but joining someone else's game with a code is always free.

How do I style team names? (iOS 26+ only — presets free, saving needs Premium)
Touch and hold a team name on the scoreboard to open the Name Style center. Pick one of the built-in presets, or touch and hold a preset to customize it — font, color, effect (glow, shadow, outline, or stacked), effect strength, and uppercase. The built-in presets are free; saving your own custom styles requires Premium. Everything is stored on your device. Name Styles is not yet on Android and is planned for a future update.
What does the Game Timer show? (iOS 26+ & Android, free for everyone)
It's off by default; turn it on in Settings → Game Timer. Once on, a clock appears in the header showing how long the game has been going, starting from the first score added. In Tournament mode it also times each match and the tournament as a whole, including breaks between matches. Elapsed time appears on share cards too, so it's included when you share a game result. Timestamps are already saved with your games, so switching the timer on mid-game still shows the true elapsed time.
The AI isn't counting correctly. What should I do?
Make sure your dominoes are:
- Well-lit and clearly visible in the camera view
- Not overlapping each other
- Against a contrasting background
- Held steady for the AI to detect them
Is my photo safe when I use a custom background?
Absolutely! When you select a photo for your scoreboard background, it's compressed and stored locally on your device only. Your photos are never uploaded to our servers or shared with anyone. You have complete control and can remove the custom background anytime.
